Interior Sewing by Lisa strives to provide quality products with outstanding details, whether it’s through Hunter Douglas Window Fashions, custom draperies, drapery hardware, soft home furnishings, or an extensive fabric and trim selection. Besides beautifying a space, these window treatments can serve a functional purpose and help boost the home’s energy efficiency.

“I love how quickly we can transform a space, adding the finishing touches to a home,” Parks shared.

Started in Her Basement
A hobby of making draperies for her own home, turned into a small business in 2001, with only a small table and her sewing machine in the basement of her home. Her husband, Brady, built her a small sewing table that was 70 inches long for Mother’s Day. It fit in the corner of the basement, and it wasn’t always easy to complete a project. “But it created a lot of window treatments!” she said.

Lisa jumped in wholeheartedly. She sent a letter out to friends and family and set up relationships with local designers, hitting the ground running.

In 2010, Lisa branched out and rented her first retail space.

“I was so scared to start this next step, but it was also really exciting,” she added. “I really feel so blessed for where I started to where I am now.”

On June 1, 2019, Lisa opened a shop in downtown Spirit Lake, purchasing a building on the west side of Hill Ave. This change provided ample space for sewing and storing window treatments in the back room, while providing a large showroom for clients to browse and explore while making decisions.

Helping the Client
Interior Sewing by Lisa offers free in-home consultations and installations. Whether it’s blinds, shades, draperies, or shutters, she guides her clients through the decision-making process. Sometimes the customer will visit the store first for ideas, or Lisa will take samples to the home to provide different visuals.

Lisa will measure the space and put prices together, with different options.

“My goal is to make it easy and simple!” she said. “Many times, in a new build or remodel, the client is overwhelmed with making decisions. After getting to know their ideas and budget, I will provide them with a few options, which will usually give different price points to select from.”

She has other clients who love to look at all the options, whether it’s the hundreds of fabric books or countless Hunter Douglas Window Fashions. “They will come and sit in the back and enjoy looking through the books,” Lisa shared.

The current theme in window fashions is neutral colors. Lisa said a window treatment is often an investment and it’s much easier to change the color of other items in the rooms, than the blinds, i.e. throw blankets, pillows – unless a bold window treatment is a particular client’s focus.

Other trends are Hunter Douglas Provenance Woven Wood shades, Hunter Douglas Silhouette Shades, as well as the motorized options that are available for operating the shades.

She said window treatments incorporating the simplicity of SoftTouch® motorized lift wands are becoming popular and are a third of the price of standard motorized options. Although, the PowerView® motorized options are always a favorite. The latter option can program your window treatments to open and close at different times of the day based on homeowner’s needs, outside temperatures and light. It also allows the homeowner the option to have window treatments work with Alexa, Google Home and Apple Home systems.

“It really depends on your needs within your room and/or home,” Lisa said.

Creating a Comfort Zone
Besides serving as home décor, window treatments can serve another purpose and boost a home’s energy efficiency. According to the Department of Energy, a home can lose up to 30% of heating and cooling energy through its windows.

Quality window fashions provide additional insulation to the home, whether it’s keeping out the cold during winter months or the sun’s harsh rays when it’s hot.

Lisa said Hunter Douglas also has options that provide light filtering options that utilize the natural light capabilities but cut down on the heat gain in a room. There are so many options to achieve the energy efficiency, as well as putting the finishing touches on a space from a decorative standpoint.

Whatever the need or your style, Interior Sewing by Lisa will be there from start to finish.

“I get to meet such great people and love getting to know them. I also love that I can help them with their needs. I really do believe I have the best clients EVER!” Lisa said.
