She's Not Sorry by Mary Kubica

What a twisty, clever thriller! This is my fourth book from Mary Kubica, I have also read The Good Girl, Pretty Baby and The Other Mrs. Her books never miss & never fail to keep me up at night, both turning pages and scared of every little sound.

She’s Not Sorry begins with our protagonist, an ER Nurse named Meghan, who arrives to work one day to a woman in a coma. It looks like she has jumped from a pedestrian bridge to take her own life. In the coming weeks, as she is caring for the patient, she speaks with her parents & becomes emotionally invested in Caitlin’s story. Dark things come to light and a witness who saw someone on the bridge with Caitlin that day…was she pushed?

I can’t go into more detail without spoilers. It’s a wild ride full of terror! Kubica keeps you on the edge of your seat with Meghan constantly walking to and from the hospital in the dark. Is she being followed? I have to admit I thought I had this one all figured out and then Mary with her plot twists!

Go read this one immediately!

Trigger Warnings: suicide, domestic abuse, just being a woman who walks alone at night

Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross

Divine Rivals is a young adult fantasy but it reads like historical fiction with all the romance. I was in love with everything in this book! The old school newsroom feel at the Oath Gazette, the magic, the mythology, the high stakes feeling due to war, the typewriters and the letters!

It begins with Iris and Roman (Winnow and Kitt), both writers at the Gazette competing to win the title of columnist. Their rivalry is so much fun. Iris is going through many struggles as her brother has left for the war and is now missing on the frontlines. In an attempt to write to him, she unknowingly stumbles upon a magical connection to her rival, Roman. What unfolds is a truly touching, intense enemies to lovers story in the time of war.

I switched back and forth from physical to audio for this one. The writing was beautiful and the audio narration was fantastic. So glad I read this one when the sequel was already released so I don’t have to wait to find out what happens. What a cliffhanger!
