Lake Life Review

At Lake Life Okoboji, we love any excuse to get out and experience the fun things our Lakes Area has to offer. This time, Joy, Tara, and I decided it was time to figure out what colors we’re actually supposed to be wearing. (Apparently, black isn’t always the answer... who knew?)

We headed to House of Colour, where the beautiful Sasha Graham greeted us, looking absolutely stunning in her autumn palette. We were asked to kick off our shoes and cozy up on the couch...already a win in my book. Sasha explained the process: everyone fits into a "season" based on whether you have warm or cool undertones. You’re either a Spring, Summer, Autumn, or Winter. Simple enough, right?

Before we began, Sasha laid down three ground rules.

Rule 1: No putting yourself down...good vibes only!

Rules 2 and 3: Well, I honestly can’t remember, but they basically boiled down to be nice to yourself and be open to discovering something new. I can handle that (I think).

First up: Me!

With my glasses off (no makeup or distractions allowed), I hopped into the chair. Sasha began draping warm and cool fabrics around my shoulders to figure out which palette made me shine — literally. Some colors brightened my face like magic, while others made me look like I needed a nap.

Truthfully, it was hard for me to tell which looked better — I spent half the time watching Sasha’s excited reactions instead of my own reflection. (I mean, her face would absolutely light up when a perfect color showed up!) After several rounds of “cool or warm," Sasha declared: You are definitely cool!

Next came the big reveal: was I a Winter or a Summer?

Now, full disclosure: I desperately wanted to be a Winter — the only season that gets to wear true black. (My closet is basically a sea of black sweaters.) But after more draping, Sasha announced: You are 100% a Summer!

Apparently, Summers haven’t been showing up much lately, so she was thrilled. And honestly, so was I — Sasha made me feel like a million bucks. She turned all those little insecurities right around and just made me feel beautiful.

Next up: Tara!

She went through the same warm/cool test and landed in the cool camp too. (Cool girls unite!) But when it came time to pick a season, Tara got her Winter badge of honor. Yes, she gets to rock that true black — and wow, did those bright Winter colors look amazing on her!

Finally: Joy!

Joy's colors stayed warm from the get-go. Even though she confessed her closet is packed full of cool Summer colors, Sasha showed her just how stunning she looked in Autumn shades — earthy, cozy, and completely gorgeous.

Makeup Magic

Since we were all makeup-free, Sasha treated us to a natural makeup application: soft blush, a little under-eye magic, and just enough to enhance our features. Then came the real game-changer...lipstick.

Once we each applied a lipstick matched to our season’s colors, bam! Our faces lit up!

We tried on a few shades. Tara pulled off an outrageously hot pink like it was made for her (seriously, who rocks hot pink like that?), and I discovered plum was my new go-to.

The Big Reveal

With our makeup set, Sasha draped useach in all the colors from our season.

Each color got rated:

  1. Accent pieces (shoes, purse, etc.)
  2. Bigger items (jackets, pants)
  3. Head-to-toe gorgeousness!

When she draped my "3s" across me, I felt my face light up. (Navy is my new black, by the way...I’m learning to let go.)

Joy’s Autumn palette was full of rich peaches, greens, and creams...actually the exact colors of my wedding! She might have been hesitant at first, but I think even she could see how stunning she looked.

Taking it Home

After the color party, Sasha talked about her other services. (Spoiler alert: you’re going to want to sign up.) She offers closet consultations, personal shopping trips to local boutiques, and even online shopping help. Basically, if you want to love your wardrobe and feel incredible every day, Sasha’s your girl.

She warned us that switching your wardrobe to your season takes about three years. (Considering my all-black closet, that sounds about right.) But with my swatch booklet of Summer colors and my new mindset, I’m already paying more attention every time I shop.

Final Verdict:

Getting your colors “read” is something everyone should do. Grab your besties, take an afternoon off, and treat yourself.

Sasha made us feel beautiful, confident, and totally seen. And who doesn’t need a little more of that?

Trust me...DO IT!
