Creating Visionary Craftsmanship with Precision and Technology

A dream was blossomed in a young boy with a few simple tools. Along with knowledge from his father, these initial tools have developed a successful company that serves clients nationwide. Alger Customs was established in 2005. In 2014, they opened their powder coating shop, Accurate Coats. Alger Companies was created to encompass Alger Customs and Accurate Coats, and in 2025, Jerad Alger became CEO and president.

“We started with a little rented shop, a small welder and a few pieces of equipment,” Jerad remembered. “My dad had fabrication experience from his previous job. We saw a need in the area for custom fabrication with all of the constant construction.”

Jerad’s love of design and welding started in his pre-teens, as the father-son duo spent time restoring classic cars. Even today, it isn’t uncommon to find Jerad working on a classic Mustang in his downtime. “I was learning to weld at 12 and restoring classic cars is a hobby of mine that I still enjoy today,” he shared.

A 2005 graduate of Okoboji, Jerad enjoys the design part of the business. The initial tools have grown into high-tech machines and the use of world class software and precision mapping with terrestrial 3D scanning. These resources allow Alger Companies to create anything imaginable, whether it’s craftsmanship for luxury homes to the metal sails at the State Pier in Arnolds Park.

“A lot of people associate us as a staircase and railing company, but we are so much more than that,” Jerad shared. “We’re a full-scale fabrication company, and because everything we build is custom, it allows us to take on a wide range of projects. We thrive on unique builds. We love when someone brings us an idea and says, ‘Can you build this?’ We are in the business of bringing cool, custom projects to life!”

Located in Milford at 826 13th Street, just east of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, this full-service metal fabrication company emphasizes in high-end steel, aluminum and stainless-steel fabrication. Daily, they are creating custom architectural pieces that stand out aesthetically, but more importantly, elevating the space’s functionality.

Whatever the project, specifically for commercial or residential, their team of expert craftsmen work to deliver quality and artistry with engineering.

“Every project meets the highest of industry standards,” Jerad added. “We love to think outside the box and solve a problem.”

One of Jerad’s favorite machines is the water jet, as it enables them to effortlessly cut through any material, including metal, composites, plastics, glass, stone, ceramics and rubber. Using a powerful combination of high-pressure water and abrasives, this tool is precise and leaves no heat affected zone. “From stone to 100-year-old Birch, the water jet isn’t limited to any certain material,” he said.

Being a custom fabrication company, they don’t just order manufactured parts, rather they create exactly what they need in house for each specific project. Alger Companies is able to use their equipment to create parts and features that make something work or become feasible.

The ability to incorporate state of the art tech software and mapping allows Jerad and his team to construct intricate, custom designs with unparalleled efficiency. One of Jerad’s favorite parts is being able to work with customers, “I love being able to hear their ideas and think through how we can design for their needs.”

Using terrestrial 3D scanning, they capture precise, high resolution images of real-world environments, whether it’s for construction or environmental studies for analyzing landscapes. Then the team designs the project in CAD, allowing them to produce high-end rendering photos where clients can see possibilities in real-life.

Some of Jerad’s favorite projects are the ones that push the limits. He’s especially drawn to complex builds that allow him to work with exotic metals and explore innovative design. Residential projects, in particular, offer opportunities to create intricate, statement-making pieces. “We’ve designed some staircases that really make you stop and think,” he said. “They’re engineered in a way where you don’t immediately see how they’re supported — almost like they’re floating in space. They’re structural, but they’re also beautiful.”

Alger Companies services every state in the lower 48. They find no project too big or small and love being able to combine intricate craftsmanship with cutting edge technology and top-level project coordination.
For a firsthand look, take a meander through the Arnolds Park Promenade. Surrounded by stunning flowers and the crystal blue waters of West Lake Okoboji, walk under the arches down to the Amusement Park entry sign and gates, both creations of Alger Companies. “We love adding beautiful touches to the Iowa Great Lakes area,” Jerad said.
